Like most small businesses, we don't have a big advertising budget and rely on word of mouth marketing to get our message out there. For me, the name screwtop invokes a nostalgic feeling of simpler times in life when I'd sit on a truck tailgate after a Texas football game and enjoy Boones Strawberry Hill with good friends. (whoops I over shared there) Fast forward 15 years and life sure is more complicated and my palate has significantly evolved; I have traded in my Strawberry Hill and Z28 for Sancerre Rose' and an SUV. But unlike life, wine doesn't have to be complicated, put simply wine is made for enjoying with the people you love.

With screwtop wine bar, my husband and I wanted to create a laid back place where both oenophiles and people who know absolutely nothing about wine (like my sweet mom who loves sweet wines) would feel comfortable and welcome. Our goal is to take the intimidation out of wine and bring back the pleasure, because at the end of the day it's about what you like to drink, not what some magazine tells you to like.

Finally the screwtop closure is a spectacular invention that really brings us a fresh and untainted wine experience. A large percentage of high quality new world wines are bottled in this fashion and should not be looked down upon as bargain basement wine.

Some of the wines in our shop will be high-quality/small production screwtops but we'll definitely stock old world cork closed wines for you romantics out there and because those French wine makers will probably never give in!

Our business is a bit of a hybrid and unique in the Clarendon area. One side of the business is a casual wine bar where we'll serve

• over 30 amazing wines by the glass, and flights
• craft beers
• and scrumptious foods that pair well with beer and wine.

On the other side we'll have a small gourmet market with

• farmstead cheese and charcuterie cut to order,
• a fantastic selection of unique boutique wines,
• craft beers
• and gourmet accompaniments like specialty spreads and jams, oils/vinegars, flavored salts
• and mouth watering decadent sweet treats!

Strollers Welcome

A lot of my friends either have or are having babies. ( I know as you're reading this some of you are picturing Reese Witherspoon right now saying, "You have a baby---in a bar?"). But, we don't really think of screwtop as a rowdy bar, but more of a neighborhood gathering place for good friends. So If you have a little one and you just need a quick escape out of the house at lunch time, or anytime, we welcome you. We have even installed a brand new baby changing table for you. We'll also serve a couple of scrumptious mock-tails for those who are expecting.

We created screwtop to be a place that we would want to spend time in with our friends and family; which is a good thing because you'll probably see a lot of me behind the bar and cheese counter!
